The game

One pan.
Four kernels.
No room.

Midnight at the street-food market. A crew of kernels has escaped from the corn cart, and every stall’s stove is where they settle scores.

The pan heats you where you stand: hot over the burner in the middle, cool out by the rim. From 60% you can pop whenever you like; at 100% you pop by yourself. Popped, you’re huge and heavy and you blast everyone near you. Then you’re fluffy, light and easy to throw.

Three lives each. The last kernel standing takes the round’s crown, and the first to three crowns wins the match.

The moves

Four buttons. All taps.

A stick under your left thumb, four buttons under your right. They keep their Turkish names in the game; here’s what each one says.

  • PATLAPop

    From 60% heat, tap to pop and blast everyone in reach. Pop early and it’s weaker; wait for 100% and you go off by yourself, full size. Now, or the big one?

  • ZIPLAHop

    A quick hop: kernels pass under you and every shove misses. Time it to a rival’s pop. Knocked off the pan? You get five seconds to hop back in.

  • İTShove

    A short dash that shoves the first kernel it meets, hard. The knock-out at the rim, if it lands. Miss, and you’re the one left exposed.

  • ULTİUlti

    Your flavour’s special. The meter fills on its own, and faster when you pop, land a hit or knock someone out. One big play a round.

The crew

Eight flavours. Eight ultis.

Every flavour plays the same until its meter fills. Then each ulti is a different move with its own counter. Four flavours from your first match; earn the other four with the coins you win.

  • Butter

    Ulti · Butter Trail

    For three seconds you leave butter behind you. Rivals slide in it; you don’t.

    Everyone close gets a shove and a jolt of heat. Torch the cold ones, never the hot.

    A cold aura: rivals inside can’t heat up, cool fast and slow right down.

    A sticky puddle where you stand. Rivals in it can barely steer. A hop frees them.

    Yanks the nearest rival right up to you, dizzy for a moment. Then pop.

The pans

Six pans. One rule each.

Every round a different stall’s stove, or one pan for the whole match. In the last 15 seconds the edge catches fire and burns inward, so every round ends.

  • Cast Iron

    The classic round pan. Learn it here, and watch the edge.

  • Wok

    A bowl: everything slides to the middle. Crowds, chain pops, harder falls.

  • Sac

    A dome: stand still and you slide to the rim. Keep your feet moving.

  • Copper

    Copper conducts: you heat up one and a half times as fast, everywhere.

  • Grill

    Walls all round, so no falling off the sides. But two bars are missing.

  • Mangal

    A wide coal box with five glowing coals. Step on one and you heat up fast.

Custom match

Set the lives, the round time, the heat, the pop power, the butter, the burning edge and the crowns to win, or switch hops, shoves and ultis off. Or start from a preset: Quick, Long, Chaos or Calm.

Bots at three levels

Easy, Medium and Hard. Hard bots bait you at the burner, hop your pops and go after whoever holds the most crowns.

Good to know.

When is Poppan out?

It’s in development now, and coming to iPhone and Android. The store buttons on this page will work as soon as it’s out.

Can I play with friends?

Not yet. Today you play against bots at three levels, with up to four kernels in the pan. Online play isn’t built yet; when it is, you’ll hear it here first.

What can I play it on?

iPhone and Android phones. Poppan plays in landscape, with a stick on the left and four buttons on the right.

How long is a match?

A few minutes. A round lasts up to a minute and the first to three crowns wins. A custom match makes it as short or as long as you like.

Is there tracking?

No. There’s no account, no ads and no analytics, and your progress and settings stay on your device. The privacy policy has the details.

What does PATLA mean?

Pop, in Turkish. The moves keep their Turkish names: PATLA pops, ZIPLA hops, İT shoves, and ULTİ fires your flavour’s special.
